Beethoven and Bruch concertos performed by Arve Tellefsen

The concerto remains the most popular of all musical genres, and on this album star-violinist Arve Tellefsen performs perhaps the greatest of all violin concertos: Beethoven’s “Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61”. It is a measure of Beethoven’s stature that in each form he touched, be it symphony, concerto, quartet, sonata or the Mass, his contribution remains Olympian and unmatched. Its originality is as striking as it is unobtrusive right from the outset, the famous five timpani notes that introduce a theme of a noble tranquillity and poise. Arve Tellefsen’s expert technique and high degree of finesse makes this recording one of a kind!

No less impressive is Tellefsen’s performance of Max Bruch’s “Violin Concerto in G minor, Op. 26” which is included as a companion-piece to Beethoven’s concerto on this album. Like the Beethoven, it is totally original in its relaxed yet disciplined approach to form. It has an indestructible freshness and warmth that has rightly claimed the allegiance of players and public alike.
