Newly composed «traditional» tunes arranged for piano
From the multi-artist Knut Buen we present the album “Vandraren-Slåttar for klaver” (“The wanderer- Hardanger fiddle tunes for piano). It consists of 19 Hardanger fiddle tunes composed by Buen, arranged for piano by Kjetil Bergheim. The tunes are interpreted by 16 pianists with a background from 10 different countries, including Håvard Gimse who also initiated the project. The release also show the Hardanger fiddle version of some of the tunes, played by Buen himself.
Knut Buen is known for his strong position in the tradition from Telemark. At the same time he is one of the most inventive and versatile Hardanger fiddle players we have. He released his first album in 1972, and a long line of recordings on his own label “Buen Kulturverkstad” after this. Recent projects (in 2018) shows his artistic span, for example he wrote the texts for Gåte’s (a Norwegian folk-rock group) comeback album “Svevn”. The same year he released “Gamle danser fra Telemark” (Old dances from Telemark)- consisting of dance tunes with Håvard Svensrud Trio. He has accepted numerous awards, and became professor at The Norwegian Academy of Music in 2017.
