At the age of 22, Mari Midtli is already considered one of the foremost singers of vocal folk music in Norway. Her presence in the performance is chilling and is likely to have won her a series of awards from a young age. This is her first solo album released on Heilo. "Dalen" consists of Mari Midtli’s favourite songs from the hidden song treasures in the valley of Gudbrandsdalen.

A lot of the tunes are sung the traditional way- a capella. Andreas Bjørkås (fiddle) and Vegard Moshagen (Harmonium) contributes with fresh accompaniment for some of the tunes.
