En sang fra vest is one of the early Eggum classics and gave Jan Eggum his second Norwegian Grammy (Spellemannprisen). The album contains several songs that have become central in the Norwegian music tradition, such as "Lillebror Per" and "De skulle begrave en konge stor". En sang fra vest presents Eggum alone with his guitar and this simple and pure sound gives extra attention to the artist’s beautiful and impressively insightful lyrics. The folk singer is young and engaged, and in possession of a distinctive look on people and everyday situations. The CD release of En sang fra vest came out on Grappa Musikkforlag in 1997 and made the Eggum back catalogue on CD complete so far.
