Bjørn Berge has played guitar and banjo since he was 13 years old. Since then he has been playing music and during his career he’s earned a reputation of being a world class guitarist.
Back to the roots
He started his own bluegrass band in the mid 80s, but the last 15 years he has been occupied with his solo career. He’s known for his ability to cultivate and explore the possibilities inherent in playing 6- and 12-string guitar. He’s released nine albums so far, of which two of them have resulted in a Norwegian Grammy award. ”Blackwood” is his album number 10. On this album, Berge has written all the songs himself, except two. Musically, he goes a little more back to his roots and it is a natural continuation of his previous album ”Fretwork” from 2009.
His own material
The last 7-8 years Bjørn Berge has made Europe as his field of work, which involves countless travel days per year, and he regularly visits several of the major jazz, blues and guitar festivals around the world. His music is difficult to categorize as he combines multiple musical genres, but mainly he finds himself in folk/blues segment interspersed with elements from rock and funk. He performs mostly his own material, but he also makes his own interpretations and versions of songs from artists / bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Butler Trio, Joni Mitchell and Motorhead to name a few.
