Nordic orchestral masterpieces.

The Nordic countries have long been famous for their many talented composers. The four composers on this record are considered to have been among the most successful in their own respective countries: Jean Sibelius in Finland, Carl Nielsen in Denmark, Hugo Alfvén in Sweden and Edvard Grieg in Norway.

The Symphony Orchestra of Norrköping, under conductor Ole Kristian Ruud – a conductor particularly interested in Nordic composers – performs some of the most important and beautiful works from Scandinavia and Finland on this album: from the dramatic and ingenious symphonic poem “Finlandia” by Sibelius, to the vigorous and lively “Maskarade” by Carl Nielsen, or the folk-inspired, almost impressionistic, “The Mountain King” by Alfvén and the beautiful evocation of the Nordic spirit in Grieg´s “Lyrical Suite”.
