Edvard Fliflet Bræin´s complete symphonies

“Music is the art of emotions – an art form connected directly to our nervous system. He who writes music has no easy task. His nerves have to be constantly exposed.” This is the world premiere recording of Edvard Fliflet Bræin’s complete symphonies.

Edvard Fliflet Bræin (1924–76) comes from a long line of Norwegian musicians, to the extent that a hundred and fifty years ago “a Bræin” was synonymous with “a fiddler” in certain parts of the country. Although his father did his very best to persuade his son to choose a different path than music, Edvard moved from the western Kristiansund to Oslo for studies at the conservatory, where he graduated as an organist in 1945. 23 years old he made his debut as a conductor with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, and around this time his first compositions appeared, after studies with Grüner-Hegge and Brustad. Bræin’s op. 2, Concert Overture, was performed by the Oslo Philharmonics in 1948, to highly favourable reviews.
