Innovative take on traditional norwegian folk ballads

After two years of experimenting in the studio at home, and touring and collaborating with other musicians, "Trillar for to" ("Trills for two") is a reality. The idea is still to mix traditional singing with the music of today, but with a full band, a male-voice choir and 20 friends singing along, the breadth of musical expression has been widened somewhat since the duo´s debut. The medieval ballads which are the basis for this recording are characterized by their narratives and dramatic stories. Stories are sung about the king´s lost daughters ("Kongsdøtrene"), the fantastic belt ("Beltevisa"), and "Sveinen og den vene møy", in which a young man abandons a beautiful damsel on an island, only to get his boat caught up in a storm. Some of the songs are inspired by old verses or melodies. The idea is for the new lyrics and arrangements to merge with the old songs.

More

Three years after their recording “Nattsang” (2004) duo Bruvoll/Halvorsen return with the sequel. Norwegian medieval ballads and folk tunes were their point of departure then as now, and this time they have expanded the concept to include some of their own material.
