Erlend Skomsvoll :Variasjoner – Vossajazz 2002

December 2001 Erlend Skomsvoll composed what was going to become the basis for the whole commission for Voss Jazz festival ‘Vossajazz’ 2002, ‘Psalm in G minor’. The premiere performance took place only three months later, march 23rd. The work had a strict compositional form, and all of the material was variations of ‘Psalm in G minor’.

‘Best arranger in the world’, is what the american legend Chick Corea called him. With his arrangements for his successful jazzband Come Shine and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Erlend Skomsvoll (b. 1969) reached new heights as an arranger. But also as bandleader, conductor, pianist and composer Skomsvoll has made himself noticed, and for that he has received prestigious prices. On :Variasjoner Erlend is finally arranging his own music, and we will probably see more from him as a composer the following years.
