Trubadur was named as one of the best albums of the year when it was released in 1976, and immediately placed Jan Eggum among the elite of Norwegian folk singers. The album topped the charts for a long time and was nominated for the Norwegian Grammy Award (Spellemannprisen). Eggum´s songs were, then as now, characterized by his honest lyrics that embraced both large and small issues. Although Trubadur mainly consists of melodious songs in the singer/songwriter tradition, Eggum is not afraid to experiment and includes for example samba rythms in of his songs.
