Sigmund Groven goes back to his roots with his release Til Telemark.
Commissioned Work
The release is dominated by the title song "I Telemark", a commissioned work for Landskapleiken at Rauland in 1994. Here Groven honors his local heritage. The different rates are in fact inspired by and dedicated to five artists who were all from Telemark: musicians Eivind Groven (Sigmund Groven’s uncle), Gjermund Haugen and Jørgen Tjønnstaul and the two poets Olav Kaste and Tarjei Vesaas.
Skillful Musicians
Besides the superior commissioned work we find a number of great folk tunes. Groven is joined by, among others, Anne Vada on vocals, Kjetil Bjerkestrand on keyboards, Iver Kleive on organ and Ivar Anton Waagaard on the piano. Groven´s harmonica communicates with pride and warmth the local musical traditions of Telemark, adding melodies the refreshing twist we so much associate with Groven.
