Reflective, intimate, melodic and beautiful are words that best describe Torbjørn Dyrud´s first solo album. Dyrud is one of several young musicians and composers of his generation who without difficulty is moving through and across different expressions. Jazz has been an important genre since childhood, later followed by studies in composition and church music. All the while, his interest in improvisation has been key. Most of the material on this album is freely improvised piano pieces, recorded in the legendary Rainbow Studio and the church of Kampen, where Dyrud is former organist. As improviser, he impresses both with his sense of form and melody. The album also features original compositions by Dyrud himself where he has been joined by two versatile musicians who need no further introduction: Stian Carstensen on accordion and kaval, and Mathias Eick on bass and trumpet.
