New CD from Dvergmål

Dvergmål released their first CD, Visor og kvæde frå Blåberglandet, in 1996. The album was based on texts by the Norwegian poet Ivar Aasen and was nominated for a Spellemannpris (Norwegian Grammy Award). Typical of Dvergmål´s music is the harmony vocals and the sound of the langeleik, hardanger fiddle, jew’s harp and willow pipe. The material on Song i himmelsalar consists both of old hymns and folk poems by the Norwegian poet Elias Blix (1836–1902), accompanied by folk tunes from various parts of the country. Hymns are an important part of the Norwegian music tradition, and Dvergmål´s release is a vital and beautiful expression of this musical heritage. The material is mainly based on a concert at The Norwegian Folk Music Week in Ål in 2002. The concert was a work commissioned for the festival to mark the 100 years that had passed since the death of Elias Blix.
