Three composers

John Corigliano (1931) has assumed the position as one of most significant ‘Young America’ voices, a generation of composers whose flowering the 1960’s initiated.

Gisle Kverndokk (1967) studied with Corigliano in New York on the completion of his Diploma in Composition at the Norwegian State Academy of Music in 1994.

Edison Denisov was born in Tomsk, Siberia in 1929 and died in Paris in 1996. Denisov became an important focal point in the upsurge of interest in Western European New Music that occurred in the post-war Soviet Union in defiance of official disapproval. He became a highly regarded link between East and West; in the Seventies, composer-colleagues in Western Europe such and Boulez and Maderna began to include him in their programs, and through his good offices, the works of musical ‘dissidents’ such as Schnittke and Gubaidulina.
