Nordstoga interprets the Bach trio sonatas

Bach’s trio sonatas for organ are a work form without really any precendent in the history of music. Many of the individual movements are characterised by the concert form and in their basic formal structure the trio sonatas do not follow the usual four-movement norm, but are rather attached to the modern, three-movement italian concert form: fast- slow- fast.
The six sonatas, BWV 525-30 (in the orbituary called «six trios for organ with pedal obligato») , was composed about 1730, that is at the beginning of Bach’s second Leipzig period. The trio sonatas present a true variety when it comes to style and structure and are carriers of an exceptional source of expression.
