Truls Mørk’s fantastic Haydn cello concertos

This recording made the name and sound of Truls Mørk known world-wide over night, and his career has of course continued to grow ever since. Mørk’s unparalleled musicality and ability to communicate through his Montagna cello (1723) is captured in all its magnitude and detail in this sensational recording he made together with Iona Brown and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra.

The C Major concerto, with its fresh, open air harmonies an joyously repeating figures stands somewhere between the Italian baroque concerto tradition and the newly evolving classical style. Some 20 years separate the C and the D Major concertos, and the latter is a more expansive work, constructed on almost Schubertian principles.
