Complete Dvorak from Grieg Trio

Grieg Trio pays tribute to one of its favourite composers by releasing all of Dvorak’s piano trios on this double disc. Dvorak’s four works is central repertoire for a piano trio, and it is near at hand and heart for a trio with such successful recordings as the Grieg Trio. Dvorak of course started out as true to the classic formal principles. Though the four piano trios, however, it is possible to follow a composer developing from mastering the format in trio no. 1, and completely transcending the framework in the last trio Dumky. It is also worth mentioning that Dvorak’s piano trios contain his perhaps most deeply felt and personal music. Perhaps this is the reason why his works have stayed with the Grieg Trio throughout its career, and that the recording we present today is, simply, phenomenal.

More

In 2004 it is 100 years since the death of Antonin Dvorak. Grieg Trio pays tribute to one of its favourite composers by releasing all of Dvorak’s piano trios on this double disc. One of Norway’s most internationally acclaimed artists today, the Grieg Trio also invites to their first season as Artistic Leaders of International Chamber Music festival of Stavanger (ICMS) this year.

Artistic visions

When Grieg Trio in 2004 take over as Artistic Leader from Truls Mørk from the ICMS, this is a natural development for the trio. Ever since the start in 1987, Sølve Sigerland (violin) Ellen Flesjø (cello) and Vebjørn Anvik (piano) have had visions and ideas that exceed the day-to-day work of a piano trio. Also the Beethoven+ project, where all of Beethoven’s piano trios is coupled with world premieres of new work from such composers as Maxwell Davies, Kaipainen and Thoresen on CD as well as in concert (Wigmore Hall, Berliner Konzerthaus and Amsterdam Concertgebouw)
