Rune songs was a part of the Skogfinns spiritual life, to sing rune songs is to sing magical songs. Rune songs are based on shamanism, but they also bear traces of other aspects of intellectual history. Sinikka Langeland has used themes from rune melodies from Finland and Karelia as a basis for new musical settings for the old rune texts from Finnskogen. She has also used elements from the Western music tradition, such as the rhythms of the Finnskogen pols dance.
