Jo Skaansar – Fange av mi tid
Almost ten years following his acclaimed album release, the sought after Norwegian jazz bassist, composer and psychologist Jo Fougner Skaansar is finally releasing his follow-up recording. ‘Fange av mi tid’ (‘Prisoner of my time’) is based on Skaansar’s versatile work as a bassist and composer, and a continuous songwriting-collaboration with the 35 year older author and lyricist Edvard Hoem.
Vocalist Ine Hoem, who has recently arisen as one of the top vocalists in Norway, is still an important musical partner of Jo’s. Together with the outstanding Helge Lien (piano) and Håkon Mjåset Johansen (drums), Ine and Jo are creating musical magic from Skaansar’s melodically varied and harmonically sophisticated compositions at the intersection between jazz and folk music.
Jo Skaansar has an expressive, lyrical and modern style of bass playing. He has contributed on around 40 recordings, and played with a diverse range of artists such as Kenny Wheeler, Ulf Wakenius, Steve Dobrogosz, Jon Christensen, Beady Belle, Hot Club de Norvège, Sinikka Langeland, Trygve Seim, Sølvguttene and Trondheim Jazz orchestra.
