The joy of storytelling A year and a half after Tore Renberg released his recording debut, Ingen nåde, and on the same day as he is publishing a new book in his series about the Hillevåg gang, Skada gods, his second album is coming out. Ein dag te presents a collection of songs and lyrics that are imbued with the joy of storytelling, where deep solemnity and gloom and pure fun and pleasure throw each other into sharp relief. Whereas Ingen nåde was a shot from the hip, recorded in the course of a few intense weeks, Ein dag te has had a longer period to mature, and its musical and lyrical range is even broader. This time Renberg is looking ahead, behind and inwards. The album was recorded at Oslo Klang with technician and producer Bjarne Stensli. Guitarist Alexander Flotve is a carryover from the previous album, while all the other participating musicians are new: Olav Christer Rossebø, Erlend Viken, Øystein Frantzvåg, Gjermund Silset, Olaf Olsen, Erland Dahlen, Cato Thommasen, Morten Abel, Petra Renberg and Anne Lise Frøkedal. The soundscape is also very different – more buoyant, acoustic and folk-oriented than his debut album. The lyrics always come first for Renberg. As an author he has a good portion of self-confidence and energy, and is not afraid of stretching boundaries and taking chances. Renberg’s song lyrics also diverge from the “standard” and feel fresh, colloquial and dynamic. The title track, “Ein dag te”, was produced by Odd Nordstoga, and sets the tone for an album with a big heart. At the other end of the spectrum is “Thomas fra blokkene”, a dark, desolate and rock-infused tale of a man whose life has been shattered.
