More

“Dancing For The Moon” is a diverse record featuring everything from beautiful ballads to groovy feel-good songs of the highest quality. Roots, blues, and Americana blend seamlessly, and Douglas has enlisted a stellar lineup of musicians to join him. This includes two beautiful duets with two of Norway’s most beautiful voices: a rendition of Don Williams’ classic “We’re All the Way” in duet form with Christel Alsos and a timeless Americana ballad “Deja Rendezvous” with Solveig Slettahjell.

This year, Adam Douglas has shared many facets of his musical self, with various singles from his upcoming album. Growing up in Oklahoma, USA, much of his inspiration comes from there, through Howlin’ Wolf and Ray Charles’ flirtation with country. He blends soul, gospel, jazz, and roots, and since moving to Norway in 2008, his music has also drawn inspiration from Norwegian mountains and forests.

His solo artist debut came in 2015 with the album “I May Never Learn.” However, it wasn’t until he participated in and won Stjernekamp on NRK in 2017 that he truly captured the hearts of the Norwegian people. The following year, he released the critically acclaimed album “The Beauty & The Brawn” and has been touring extensively since. In March 2021, he released his third full-length studio album, “Better Angels.”

After receiving a positive response and enjoying fun concerts following the release of “Better Angels,” along with all the drama surrounding the pandemic (lockdowns, etc.), and more political unrest worldwide, inspiration poured in for new songs. One of the few positives of the pandemic period was that all he could do was retreat into his bubble and write, and then write some more!

Adam Douglas demonstrates clear musical dynamism with riff-driven songs and his remarkable vocal range on the new album. It’s evident that he has a unique storytelling ability. He conveys himself in an honest and relatable manner, tackling both significant and everyday themes that life has to offer.

For example, in the song “True Blue,” he paints a beautiful picture of a love story, nostalgically narrated by Adam Douglas in a musical Americana landscape. The song tells a true story of two childhood friends growing up together, only to discover stronger romantic feelings for each other later in life.

At the same time, Douglas addresses more significant political questions and topics in a relatable way and with a twinkle in his eye. Examples of this can be found in songs like “Maybe Someday” and “I Need a Cigarette.” He places us in our own time, marked by a tumultuous political climate and an uncertain future, while providing listeners with a mantra that’s impossible not to sing along with, like a musical therapy session.

Songwriting was a good mix of self-therapy and channeling frustrations and telling other people’s stories through my own filter. It opened up a new world for me as a songwriter.

The album “Dancing For The Moon” offers listeners a musical feast of everything modern Americana has to offer, once again proving why Adam Douglas is considered one of Norway’s best vocalists and communicators
