In 15 songs carefully chosen from the classical repertoire, spanning from the sacred to the profane, the operatic to the musical, Aria provides the listener with a wondrous and magical landscape of introspective beauty.
Musical Journey
Opening with Schubert’s “Ave Maria”, sung by Nidardomens Guttekor, and followed by the aria “Lascia Ch’io Pianga” from Händel’s “Rinaldo” in which the violin replaces the traditional soprano, we are taken on a musical journey that includes Scandinavian sacred music such as “Nå gjester himlen jorden” by Carl-Andreas Næss, and “Et lite barn av Davids hus” by Egil Hovland, to the more established pieces such as the Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana and Lacrimosa from Mozart’s Requiem.
Evergreens
The journey continues, with Norway’s most popular and respected violinists Arve Tellefsen performing ethereal arrangements of the folk melodies “Greensleeves” and “El Cant dels Ocells” (Folklore Catalan). Christmas repertoire is also included, with “När juldagsmorgon glimmar“ and “Julefløyten“. Finally, after a tender version of the ever-popular “Wiegenlied” by Brahms, we are treated to a rousing “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, written by Rodgers and Hammerstein, from the musical Carousel.
A Moving Experience
Nidarosdomens Boy’s Choir is one of Norway’s finest male choirs, based in Trondheim and under the leadership of conductor Bjørn Moe. This is their third recording release with Arve Tellefsen, continuing their highly successful union of quality performance and repertoire carefully selected to display their many talents. Soloists and musicians from the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra are also featured. With Aria, the melodic repertoire is central, artfully combined to balance the instrument with the voice, and to give the listener a total, moving experience.
