Living traditions
This all star band, with jazz saxophone player Tore Brunborg (Masqualero, Manu Katché, Tord Gustavsen) and folk singer Berit Opheim (Trio Medieval) in the lead, dwells upon and transforms different folk tunes from Voss, Sogn and Hardanger, and serve these in new arrangements and with newly composed themes. "It is a great pleasure to present this old local music that in our view still stands strong and speaks to people today," writes Berit Opheim in the liner notes . "Hildo" was the name of the church bell that rose over Vossevangen from the tower of Vangskyrkja, in the small town Voss in the old days. A town where both Berit and Tore has their roots. On the album the Brunborg and Opheim is joined by guitarist Stein Urheim (Stein & Mari, Erlend Apneseth), bassist Steinar Raknes (Stillhouse, Ola Kvernberg Trio, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra) and drummer Kåre Opheim (Karl Seglem, Real Ones) The project got its premiere at the Voss International Jazz Festival in 2018, and was nominated for a National Music Critics Award the same year.
