Randi Stene has established herself as one of the most important of her generation of Scandinavian singers. She had her international operadebut in 1993 at the Theatre de Chatelet in Paris singing Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier to great acclaim in the international press. Randi Stene has established herself as one of the most important of her generation of Scandinavian singers. She had her international operadebut in 1993 at the Theatre de Chatelet in Paris singing Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier to great acclaim in the international press. Since then she has guested among others The Metropolitan Opera House in New York, Covent Garden, Opera Bastille, Frankfurt, Theatre de la Monnaie (Bruxelles), Stockholm, Oslo. She has also been a member of the ensemble at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen for 32 years.
Her concerts engaments has included concerts at Salzburger Festspiele, Edinburgh-festival, at the Barbican, London, Concertgebaw, Amsterdam, Lyon, Bergen Festspiele, working with conductors like,: Bernard Haitink, Christoph von Dochnany, Andre Previn, Andres Nelsons, Mariss Jansons, Yannick Nezet-Seguin, Esa –Pekka Salonen, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Daniel Harding amongst others.
She has done recordings of music by Zemlinsky and Schulhoff, Grieg, Sibelius., Delius, Strauss, Vivaldi, Dowland and is also taking part in the highly acclaimed DVD productions of Giulio Cesare and the Copenhagen Ring.
She has a great interest in doing recitals, and has worked with pianists as Leif Ove Andsnes, Håvard Gimse, Burkard Kehring, Matti Hirvonen, Bengt Forsberg and Helmuth Deutsch.
In 2004 she established her own chambermusic-festival in Trondheim, Norway called Summersong at Ringve, and from 2014-2016 she was the artistic director of Kirsten Flagstad Festival.
She is since 2009 a professor at the Norwegian State Academy of Music, Norway, and since 2019 the Artistic Director at Trondheim Opera.
