Marianna Shirinyan was born into a family of musicians in Yerevan, Armenia. Developing a love for the violin repertoire at an early age, her family decided she should play the piano in order to accompany all the violinists of the house. Initially not being a favourable decision with Marianna, a long journey getting to know the instrument, the repertoire and eventually growing fond of the piano had nonetheless begun. She began her musical studies at the Komitas Music Conservatory in Yerevan, followed by further studies at the Musikhochschule Lübeck in Germany.

Winning five prizes at the 2006 ARD International Music Competition in Munich kick-started Marianna’s international career as soloist and chamber musician. Since then she has appeared at several international festivals such as the Schwetzinger Festspiele, MDR Music Festival in Germany, Midsummer Music in Iceland, Risør, Stavanger International Chamber Music Festivals as well playing the Grieg piano concerto at the Bergen Festspillene in Norway, performed with orchestras such as the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Postdamer Kammerakademie, The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Oslo, Helsinki and Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestras, with conductors such as Lawrence Foster, Zoltan Kocsis, Antonello Manacorda, Lan Shui, Krystof Urbanski and Joshua Weilerstein.

Marianna appreciates long term collaborations, and has held a one-year term of residency at the Odense Symphony Orchestra during the season 2013-14, and a residency term of two years at the Diamant Ensemble in Copenhagen since the beginning of the 2014. She has a bright discography, enthusiastically received by international reviewers and listeners alike. Since settling in Denmark, Marianna has received numerous awards for her contributions to cultural life, including Danish Radio’s prestigious P2 Artist Prize. Marianna is also a professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, a Steinway-artist and the co-artistic leader of the Fejoe Chamber Music Festival in Denmark.
