Jørn Fossheim, born 1968 in Norway, studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music where he received the Academy’s diploma of distinction in 1995. After his highly acclaimed debut recital in Oslo the same year he was engaged to play a series of concerts in France and Italy on behalf of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry. Since then he has given recitals and appeared as soloist with orchestras in Japan, Germany, Russia, Slovakia and Lithuania as well as in the Scandinavian countries. In 2001 Fossheim gave the Russian premiere of Issay Dobrowen’s piano concerto with Dmitriev and the Academic Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Philharmonia, the first performance of this work in nearly 70 years. After this he has toured extensively in Russia, playing Dobrowen’s works as well as recital programs consisting of Nikolai Medtner’s compositions. Fossheim’s strong interest in the music of Medtner led to a special occasion in 2003 when he was engaged to play Medtner’s 3rd concerto in St. Petersburg. It was the first time in many years that this great Russian work was made available to the public in this city.
