Grieg Trio

Grieg Trio was founded in 1987 by Vebjørn Anvik (Piano), Sølve Sigerland (Violin) and Ellen Margrete Flesjø (Cello) and has since received international recognition. After a successful debut, they traveled to Budapest to study with András Mihály, and later studied with both Norbert Brainin and Eli Goren.

Among numerous awards, the Grieg Trio won 1st prize at the 1989 Colmar International Chamber Music Competition in France, the Parkhouse Award (England) 1991, the Norwegian Music Critics Prize 1993 / 94 and Spellemannprisen (Norway) 2004.

The Grieg Trio has achieved widespread international recognition, with performances in most European countries, the United States, Japan and New Zealand, in major venues such as Chatelet, Concertgebouw, Schauspielhaus, Salle Verdi and Weill Hall, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.

They have been engaged by Wigmore Hall and Berlin Konzerthaus for their Series “Beethoven +”, consisting of Beethoven’s Piano Trios combined with new commissions from contemporary composers. Engagements also include international festivals like Menuhin Festival Gstaad (Switzerland), Bad Kissingen and Schwetzingen (Germany), Delft and Orlando Festival (Holland), Bath (England), Helsinki and Kuhmo (Finland), Bergen and Oslo (Norway).

The Grieg Trio has recorded works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Schumann, Brahms, Dvorak, Shostakovich, Martin and Bloch for Simax Classics, EMI and Virgin to great critical acclaim.

In autumn 2012 they celebrated their 25th anniversary over three concerts at the Jakob Church of Culture in Oslo, performing a collection of highlights from their career.
