Hear Christian Ihle Hadland in Mozart!
Britten cadenzas
Among the many striking features if this release is the choice of cadenzas for the E-flat concerto; the expansive set Benjamin Britten wrote for Svjatoslav Richter in 1966. Britten described his cadenzas as ‘not uninfluenced by Hans Keller’s fascinating Functional Analyses’ and they paraphrase the harmonic as much as the melodic content of the concerto’s first and last movements.
True bliss of the moment
“Are you happy?” is the question Elvira Madigan puts to her beloved lieutenant out there on the meadow in Bo Widerberg’s film from 1967. This movie brought Mozart before a broad audience, and overnight the Andante from concerto no. 21 became a massive hit. When interviewed in 2005 about his plans for a future career, the then 22 year old Christian Ihle Hadland stated “I never make absolute long term plans, because I do not know what will make me happy five years from now. I can only look at what make me happy here an now.” In 2013 happiness involves being the father of two year old Benjamin, sharing the post of Artistic Director of Stavanger International Chamber Music Festival with Martin Fröst, and giving concerts.
