Nature and chance

Magne Hegdal is, in many ways, not the typical composer, never having ceased to be curious. A few years ago Hegdal made a significant change in aesthetics – surprising for many who had come to know him as totally honest towards his own radical conception of music. But those better acquainted with him knew that this was a consequence of an honesty towards the music where the personality submits to a question of priorities.

Magne Hegdal approaches the music with a spontaneous, almost “naïve” joy of discovery and with candid curiosity. In reality, a far too rare experience: how often does one come across a composer who is able to rejoice quite as spontaneously and enthusiastically over other people’s music, not least older music? His joy is readily shared with others, his eyes light up with pleasure and are followed by energetic gesticulation. On this album one can hear three of Hegdal’s radical and ground-breaking works, performed by the BIT20 Ensemble.
