Sara Chen (b. 1990) is a Performers Diploma-student at Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music under the tutelage of Prof. Mauricio Fuks. She completed her bachelor-degree at Barratt Due music institute of music with professor Stephan Barratt-Due. Sara Chen (b. 1990) is a Performers Diploma-student at Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music under the tutelage of Prof. Mauricio Fuks. She completed her bachelor-degree at Barratt Due music institute of music with professor Stephan Barratt-Due. Sara has been soloist with a numerous of orchestras, such as the Bergen Philharmonic, Kristiansand- and Tromsø symphony orchestra, Gjøvik- and Romerike symphony orchestra, Barratt Due symphony orchestra and Oslo symphony orchestra. In 2008, Sara performed at Bergen International Arts Festival with her sister where they played for the King and Queen of Norway, and gave four successful concerts, receiving excellent reviews. Sara has also been a soloist at Hardanger music festival, Lofoten festival, iPalpiti i Los Angeles, among others. At the age of 13, she won her first international prize, the Virtuoso Prize in the third Gnessin international competition in Moscow. She won the 1. prize and a “special” prize three years later in Remember Enescu international competition in Romania. In Norway, Sara won the 1. prize in the National Youth Competition, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician – duo and trio. At Summit Music Festival in New York, she won the chamber music award for “Outstanding performance”. Sara has also recieved several scholarships and prizes, including the Karoline prize for top achievement in school and culture. A number of national television appearances made Sara well-known in Norway. With her chinese roots, she has been involved in Norway-China cooperation, especially with the folk musician Steinar Ofsdal. The duo have made performances and tours both in Norway, Singapore and China. Catharina and Sara Chen gave a world premiere in 2010, at the Expo world exhibition in Shanghai, of a symphonic poeme for two violins “the Moon”, written especially for the sisters by composer Martin Romberg. The concert was followed by a big tour in China. After great reviews, they were invited back to Shanghai the same fall to perform he piece again at the Spring Festival. Sara is an experienced world traveller with concerts and tours in for example Brazil and Spain with Oslo Camerata, and in China, Slovenia, Slovakia, New York and Los Angeles as soloist. She has been a student of Anne-Berit Halvorsen and Alf Richard Kraggerud, and has participated in master-classes with several prestigious teachers and artists, such as Henning Kraggerud, Arve Tellefsen, Aaron Rosand, Dora Schwarzberg, Mauricio Fuks, and Camilla Wicks.
