Per Vollestad has established himself as one of Norway’s leading baritones. His remarkable recital debut in 1986 was soon followed by his debut at the Norwegian Opera. He is also regularly invited as a soloist with all the Norwegian orchestras. Per Vollestad is a regular performer abroad. Per Vollestad has established himself as one of Norway’s leading baritones. His remarkable recital debut in 1986 was soon followed by his debut at the Norwegian Opera. He is also regularly invited as a soloist with all the Norwegian orchestras. Per Vollestad is a regular performer abroad. He has made extensive European tours with conductors like Franz Bruggen, Phillippe Herreweghe and Sigiswald Kuijken. Per Vollestand is highly praised for his Lieder interpretations, and has performed at solo recitals in Wigmore Hall in London, Theatre Chatelet in Paris, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Schauspielhaus in Berlin, in Los Angeles, Moskow and Dubai. Vollestad has recorded more than 30 CD albums with material ranging from Mozart, Schubert and Schumann to modern opera and contemporary music. He holds a Ph.D. from the Norwegian Academy of Music. The subject was Christian Sinding and his songs, and his Sinding biography was released in 2006. The same year Vollestad and Sigmund Hjelset received the “Edvard Grieg award”.
