Jan Eggum has for years been among Norway’s most loved performers and composers. He debuted as a recording artist in 1975 and has since proved to be a very productive singer, guitarist, composer and lyricist. Besides a large number of solo releases, he has also contributed to several group projects. He was part of the group Gitarkameratene, and has also written songs for other artists, among them Wenche Myhre. He has written music for theater productions and has been involved in various publications. Several of Eggum´s albums have sold to gold and in total, he has sold over 250,000 albums. Jan Eggum has received five Norwegian Grammys (Spellemannprisen), three as a solo artist and two as a member of Gitarkameratene. In addition, he has received numerous other awards. Through more than 30 years with album releases and extensive touring, Eggum has gathered a huge following. He is often described as a melancholy humoris, known for his sharp observations and melodic flair. Musically, his startingpoint is the singer/songwriter tradition, with references to jazz and rock. Jan Eggum is also known as an advocate for the use of Norwegian language in Norwegian music and has during his career given a strong contribution to the tradition of popular music with Norwegian lyrics.
