Gjermund Larsen (born 29 July 1982 in Verdal in Nord-Trøndelag) is a well-known Norwegian folksinger and composer. Gjermund graduated from the Ole Bull Academy in Voss, and studied folk music at the Academy of Music in Oslo. Larsen was the youngest to ever win the A-class Ladskappleiken (2002). He had his solo debut with the piece called Brytningstid til Telemarksfesticalen (2006). Around the same time he started the Gjermund Larsen Trio with Andreas Utnem on the harmonium and Sondre Meisfjord playing bass. The trio released their first album Ankomst in 2008, which won the Norwegian Grammy Award in the category folkmusic. He was also the first person to take the diploma in folk fiddle at the Academy of Music in Oslo the same year. In 2010, they gave out their second record called Aurum, and their newest album Reisen had its release in March 2013.
In 2009 he released his first childrens album “Går i fjøs”.The album was nominated for a Norwegian Grammy in 2009 in the category children albums, while Larsen himself was nominated in the category of contemporary composers for “Grains”. The following year he was again nominated twice in the Norwegian Grammy Award 2010 in the following categories; folkmusic with Gjermund Larsen Trio and popular composer – both for the album Aurum.
