Bjørn Fongaard

Bjørn Fongaard (1919-80) studied at the Conservatory of Music in Oslo with teachers including Per Steenberg, Sigurd Islandsmoen, Bjarne Brustad and Karl Andersen. For several years he was known as an outstanding guitar player rather than as a composer. His early work is written in a very traditional style, but under the influence of composers like Hindemith, Schoenberg and Webern he developed a distinctly personal idiom. December 2014
