BJØRN BOYSEN was born in 1943 in Oslo. From the age of 14 and until his debut in 1966 he studied the organ under the Cathedral Organist in Oslo, Arild Sandvold. Later followed further studies under Finn Viderø, Copenhagen. Boysen has mainly been active as a teacher of the organ, first at the Oslo Conservatory of Music and since its foundation in 1973, at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo where he has been a professor of the organ since 1995. In the period 1991¬–98 Bjørn Boysen was also the principal of the same institution.
Bjørn Boysen is considered to be one of Norway’s finest concert organists and he has given concerts in most parts of Norway as well as concert tours in a number of European countries. He has performed on many recordings and has appeared regularly on Norwegian national radio and television. Since 1977 Boysen has been the organist at the Oslo Concert Hall where he has the responsibility for one of Norway’s biggest organs.
Not only is Bjørn Boysen an active performer and teacher, he has also distinguished himself as a consultant on both the construction of new organs as well as the preservation and restoration of old instruments.
