The debut recording from four composers in their twenties – abounding and lustrous orchestral writing.
Each of the four are involved in many interesting projects these days. Mikalesen is writing for Thomas Bloch and the Reykjavik Chamber Orchestra. Karlstrøm works for the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, whereas Matre is composer in residence with Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra. Gardner was among the finalists of Gaudeamus International Music Week 2006 and had a piece performed by the Netherlands Radio Orchestra.
Rolf Gupta and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra
Chief Conductor of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra for three years, Rolf Gupta led the orchestra through some very exiting projects, including a TV reality-documentary about the life of this particular orchestra in a financially difficult but artistically successful period. Introducing and working with the Lights Out project is a natural continuance of Gupta’s work with established composers like Nørgård, Berio, Lindberg, Benjamin, Rautavaara, Francesconi and Maxwell-Davies. With enthusiastic support from Hans Werner Henze, Gupta has conducted the Sharoun Ensemble of the Berlin Philharmonic in a concert celebrating the composer’s 75th birthday, in addition to the 7th and 9th symphonies with Rundfunk Sinfonie Orchester Berlin, BerlinerRundfunkchor, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Russian National Orchestraand Westdeutscher Rundfunk Sinfonie Orchester respectively.
