Sølve Sigerland studied violin and chambermusic at the Norwegian Academy of Music and at the Ferenc Liszt Academy and has attended Master classes with Ana Chumachenco and Lorand Fenyves.
Sigerland has performed as soloist with among others Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, Stockholm Philharmonic and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestras with conductors like Andrew Litton, Walter Weller, Leif Segerstam and Daniel Harding including works from Vivaldi and Locatelli via Mozart to Mendelssohn, Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Szymanowski.
In 1993 he represented Norway in the Nordic Soloist Biennale in Stockholm and in 1995 he was double prize winner in the “Tibor Varga International Violin Competition” in Sion, Switzerland.
He has been engaged at the Risør, Oslo and Stavanger chambermusic festivals as well as at the Bergen festival.
Sigerland participated as first violin in Truls Mørk`s recording of Grieg g-minor string quartet for Virgin Classics which received the “Diapason d `or” in France 2002.
His first solo CD for SIMAX Classics was released in March 2003 with music by the Norwegian composer Bjarne Brustad for violin solo. “The Strad”`s Martin Anderson wrote : “..an important discovery..” “ Sølve Sigerland is a first-rate apostle for these forgotten gems, combining a strong sense of line with an awareness of the possibilities for colour”
As a member of Grieg Trio he has given concerts in halls like Wigmore Hall (London), Weill Hall (Carnegie Hall, New York), Kennedy Center (Washington DC), Chatelet (Paris), Schauspielhaus (Berlin), Sale Verdi (Milan), Concertgebouw (Amsterdam) and participated in festivals like Orlando, Kuhmo, Stavanger, Bad Kissingen, Bergen, Gstaad, Bath and Risør.
CD recordings for Virgin Classics, EMI and SIMAX Classics include works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Brahms, Dvorak, Grieg and Shostakovich.
The Grieg Trio has received Schell Euro Prize, Norwegian Music Critics Prize, Bang Olufsen Music Prize, Parkhouse Award (London) and first and two extra prizes at the Colmar International Chamber Music Competition (-89) in France.
