Jesús Fernández Baena was born in Estepa (Seville). He studied recorder and lute at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Sevilla, with Guillermo Peñalver and Juan Carlos Rivera. Subsequently, awarded by the Andalucian Governement, he continued studies at the Koninklijk Conservatorium of The Hague, obtaining his diploma in 2002.

He has collaborated with groups such as Private Musicke, El Concierto Español, Al Ayre Español, Ludovice Ensemble, or La Colombina, performing at the main early music festivals. Jesús has been directed by conductors such as Frans Brüggen, Gabriel Garrido, Paul MacCreesh, Fabio Bonizzoni, Emilio Moreno and Eduardo López. Besides, he assiduously accompanies several singers, such as Magdalena Kožená, Nùria Rial, José Hernández Pastor, and Raquel Andueza, with whom, since 2010, founded the ensemble "Raquel Andueza & La Galanía".

Baena has made recordings for Spanish, Swiss, French and Dutch radio, as well as for the labels Deutsche Grammophon, Harmonia Mundi France, NB Musika, Naïve. In 2010 he created is own label, Anima e Corpo.
