Kim Åge Furuhaug makes music by banging bits of metal. As Super Heavy Metal, he takes the humble cymbal and reproduces the sounds it makes until he creates a virtual orchestra. On ‘Gong Splash Midi Midi’ – Super Heavy Metal’s second album, following the startling debut ‘Music for Cymbals’ from 2016 – this treatment has been taken several stages further. Working with producer/engineer Emil Nikolaisen and sound-processor Ådne Meisfjord. The album is mixed by Anders Bjelland-who has collaborated with Furuhaug from the beginning of the Super Heavy Metal project. The cymbals have been linked to various synths and effects units to form a kind of electronic variant to John Cage’s invention of the prepared piano.
