Born in London in 1957, Tony Harrison has been an international Recording Producer for over twenty years working with many of the world’s most prominent artists.
He joined EMI at Abbey Road studios in 1986, working on a number of important recordings including the now famous Sir Simon Rattle recording of the Gershwin Opera Porgy and Bess, where he was both assistant producer and editor. His special association with Norway began soon after leaving EMI when he met the young pianist Leif Ove Andsnes and was his producer for ten years.
One of Tony’s particular interests has been to expand the possibilities of the recording medium and develop its latent creative potential, and in so doing has developed many new techniques both in the studio and in post-production. More recently he was a Supervisor in the Stipendprogrammet for kunstnerisk utviklingsarbeid (The Norwegian Artistic Research Fellowships Programme), and it was here that he started to formulate, with Sigurd Slåttebrekk, his recreative theory as a means of extracting deep-level musical content from early recordings. In 2010 Tony was awarded the prestigious Arbeidsstipend fra Statens kunstnerstipend (State Artist Stipend) for three years, in order to continue his research.
Tony Harrison also maintains an active interest in conducting and has recorded for the Chandos label.
