Kolbjorn Holthe is one of the most demanded Norwegian violinists of his generation and a much sought-after soloist, chamber musician and teacher. He was appointed Associate Professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music in 2001. Between 1991 and 1997 he followed musical education at the same academy, only interrupted by two years at the Louisiana State University studying under Camilla Wicks. Holthe is the recipient of numerous prizes and awards; his acclaimed 1999 debut recital received the Musikkens Venners Landsforbund award for best debut performance. He has been concertmaster of the Norwegian National Opera Orchestra from 1997 to 2004 and has been a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe from 1997 to 2009, in the second half of this period as Principal of the second violin section. During this time he worked regularly with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Bernard Haitink. Holthe has also appeared as soloist with all the professional symphonic orchestras in Norway, as well as the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. In the recent years he has been engaged as a soloist by Symphony Nova Scotia and the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra in Canada, among others.
