His main artistic focuses are concert music, electronic music and music theatre. Skar has always insisted on working parallel in both pop and the contemporary art music genre. This has resulted in a great span of expression. His artistic production includes operas and musicals, interdisciplinary collaborations with artists like Nils Bech and Susanna Wallumrød, and also works for Oslo Sinfonietta, Ingrid Andsnes and Ensemble Ernst. Julian Skar’s music is performed frequently both in Norway and abroad. He is co-founder and composer/musician in Ensemble neoN. The ensemble has won two Spelleman prizes (Norwegian Grammy) and several other awards.
