Jai Shankar (born 1980 in Punjab, India) is an Indian/Norwegian percussionist, known for his tabla playing in his own and other musicians recordings. He has also played with the group Ensemble 96 and the folk musicians Javid Afsari Rad, Pouyan Abdoli (Iran), Knut Buen, Hari Prasad, Hege Rimestad and Tone Hulbækmo. Shankar plays a lot with his sister, the sitarist Rohini Shajpal. He also co-operates with the Swedish group Mynta. Lately he has played raga jazz in his own group called Shankar with the musicians Mukesh Sharma on sarod, Shri Lal Shajpal on violin, Rohini Sahajpal on sitar and Kenneth Ekornes on percussion.
