Gottfried von der Goltz, German conductor and violinist, received early training under his father Conrad von der Goltz, and later under Rami Shevelov in Hannover. He completed his studies at the Juilliard School in New York and with Rainer Kussmaul in Freiburg. When he was only 21, with a secure place in the Norddeutscher Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra and a highly promising career as a ‘modern’ violinist before him, Gottfried von der Goltz decided to switch to a far less secure career as a Baroque violinist and member of the Freiburger Barockorchester (FBO). With his exceptional talent he is now one of the foremost international Baroque violinists. He has made several recordings with FBO, and has an active career as leader and soloist with both FBO and NBO. Today, he is a versatile musician active also as a conductor and as a soloist on the modern violin. Goltz is also in high demand as a teacher, and holds a professoriate at the Freiburg Music Academy in both baroque and modern violin. October 2013
