Karin Krog made her appearance on the Scandinavian jazzscene in the early 60s and has since then worked in most countries in Europe, Russia, China, Indonesia, Australia, Japan and the US. In the 60s she worked with musicians like Jon Christensen, Jan Garbarek and Arild Andersen. In the US she worked for the first time in 1967 with the the Don Ellis orchestra, concerts and recording. In 1968 Krog won Down Beats Talent deserving wider recognition in the vocal cathegory, and has since then many times figured in this poll as well as in several European polls a.o. The European Jazzfederations poll. Her recordings Some Other Spring with Dexter Gordon and Hi fly with Ardhie Shepp won grammys in Japan, 1970 and 1977, respectively. Winning the Down Beat poll brought her together with with other European pollwinners like John Surman, Jean Luc Ponty, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Daniel Humair and Albert Mangelsdorf. This group recorded for German label MPS and toured Japan for Expo 1970. Sharing an mutual interest in electronic music Krog and Surman recorded an album in 1978, Cloudline Blue, and has worked with him in duo during the past 20 years. They recorded Such Winters of Memory and The Nordic Quartet for ECM, and Freestyle for the Odin label. They produced Bluesand For Meantime records, a label Krog started in 1987. Bluesand won the Norwegian Grammy named Spellemannsprisen in year 2000, as the jazz CD of the year. Krog finds working with Surman a great challenge because it includes live electronics as well as acustical pieces like only saxophone and voice. https://www.karinkrog.no/ May 2011
