She has received several prizes for her performances and recordings, such as The Norwegian Soloist Prize in 2005. The recording ‘Grieg Peasant Dances’ with sister Åshild Breie Nyhus was nominated for the Norwegian Grammy Spellemannprisen and awarded “Record of the Year” by the Great Britain Grieg Society in 2007. Ingfrid Breie Nyhus has performed at a number of festivals and venues in Norway and Europe, and has been described by critics as ”a virtuoso of timbre”, ”with luscious touch and rich nuances”, ”an extraordinary sensitive musician”, and with "a freshness that is captivating". She made her soloist diploma at the Norwegian Academy of Music, in addition to studies at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland and Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover, Germany. She also has a strong background in folk music, first of all with the Røros pols from her father’s family. Ingfrid Breie Nyhus is currently focusing on further depth into interpreting Norwegian music inspired by folk music, and this work is connected to a performing fellowship in artistic research.
