Den ble nominert til Spellemannprisen og satte startskuddet for Bergensartistens karriere som skulle vise seg \u00e5 bli lang og rikholdig. Eggums reflekterte tekster og gjennomarbeidede melodier i sanger som \u201dKj\u00e6re halvbror\u201d og \u201dDe skulle begrave en konge stor\u201d fikk oppmerksomhet i den norske musikkbransjen som ventet spent p\u00e5 hvordan den unge artisten ville utvikle seg videre \u2013 og de skulle ikke bli skuffet. Platen ble spilt inn med Johnny Sareussen som produsent og innbefattet en rekke erfarne musikere, deriblant Trygve Thue som senere skulle produsere flere av Eggums utgivelser. I 1975 ga Jan Eggum ogs\u00e5 ut sin f\u00f8rste visebok, Ugress i ditt bed.
