With the release Til Telemark, Sigmund Groven goes back to his roots. The artist is himself born in Heddal, Telemark and has close ties to his home county and its strong musical traditions. Til Telemark is a beautiful tribute to the home and the local folk music that has followed Groven throughout his career. However, in spite of the local flavour, there has been a great international interest for this release, and Til Telemark has been released in many parts of the world. The album is dominated by the title song "I Telemark", a commissioned work for Landskappleiken at Rauland in 1994. Besides the superior commissioned work we find a number of great folk tunes. Groven\u00b4s harmonica communicates with pride and warmth the local musical traditions of Telemark, giving the melodies the refreshing twist we so much associate with Groven.<\/p>\n

The release is dominated by the title song "I Telemark", a commissioned work for Landskapleiken at Rauland in 1994. Here Groven honors his local heritage. The different rates are in fact inspired by and dedicated to five artists who were all from Telemark: musicians Eivind Groven (Sigmund Groven’s uncle), Gjermund Haugen and J\u00f8rgen Tj\u00f8nnstaul and the two poets Olav Kaste and Tarjei Vesaas.<\/p>\n
Besides the superior commissioned work we find a number of great folk tunes. Groven is joined by, among others, Anne Vada on vocals, Kjetil Bjerkestrand on keyboards, Iver Kleive on organ and Ivar Anton Waagaard on the piano.
