This record blends classical compositions from the 1950\u00b4s<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW178930962 BCX0\"> from Leo Brouwer and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, with a far more modern composition from Norway&#8217;s own Ketil Hvoslef written in 2019<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The record\u00b4s blend of three different compositions exemplifies the great contrast<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">composers can use to create different approaches in writing music for the guitar. The work done by Brouwer and Castelnuovo-Tedesco proves groundbreaking within the<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">early music written for the guitar, where both composers focused on including the<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">instrument in the compositions included on \u201cThe fifties and Now\u201d. Especially \u201cQuintet<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"> \u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Op 143\u201d (1950) by Castelnuovo-Tedesco may have caused the guitar to enter the<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">halls of conservatories and universities, and therefore influence the audience and<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">focus related to the guitar as a chamber music instrument.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cQuintet\u201d (1958) by Leo Brouwer was written by the cuban composer while he was<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">only 17 years of age. In comparison to Castelnuovo-Tedesco, a more mature piece,<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">written in the middle of the composer&#8217;s 50s.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Brouwer used afro-cuban syncopated rhythms to make sure the guitar<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">was more of a solo instrument in the composition. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Brouwer also facilitated the piece<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">for several different playing techniques, which make the composition able to move<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">the heart of any musician.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The last composer featured on the record is not a guitarist himself, but is rather<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">influenced by the instrument in relation to more unusual and unique compositions.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cTroika for two guitars and percussion\u201d (2019) gathers forms and influences from the<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Russian troika. Where the percussion takes the role as the locomotive, while the two<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">galloping horses are substituted by two guitars. This guitar composition illustrates<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">just how far the guitar has evolved as an instrument feature in chamber music since<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the 1950s.
