A year after volume 1 in the series of Brahms\u2019s four symphonies was released, the series is brought to a brilliant conclusion with this live recording of the Brahms 1. Symphony. Maestro Mariss Jansons\u2019s readings of these masterpieces are truly magnificent. This disc also includes somewhat of a rarity; the Hamlet Overture from 1853 by Joseph Joachim. This piece was one of Brahms\u2019s own personal favourites throughout his life, he even arranged it for two pianos at an early stage.<\/p>\n

In times like these, when the musical experience itself apparently takes the back seat to the \u201cscience\u201d of \u201chistorical correct performances\u201d, it is indeed a blessing that there still exists interpreters like Jansons. Personal and heartfelt performances allow the audience to take part in the fantastic universe of Brahms\u2019s symphonies<\/p>\n
This disc also includes somewhat of a rarity; the Hamlet Overture from 1853 by Joseph Joachim. This piece was one of Brahms\u2019s own personal favourites throughout his life, he even arranged it for two pianos at an early stage. The Hamlet Overture dates from the time when Joachim was detaching himself from the \u201cNew German\u201d school of Liszt and entering a more classically-inspired period.<\/p>\n
